Laser hermetic sealing (LHS) is used in the aerospace industry when a hermetic seal is required on an assembly to protect it from harsh environments such as extreme temperatures and pressures. The assemblies are first vacuum baked to remove moisture as well as to backfill the assemblies with the required gas combination. They are then laser welded in an inert environment glovebox.
