Our Engineering Process

For EB Industries, Engineering is at the core of everything we do. Our engineers are always available to speak with you to design the part, and associated welding process, to meet your specific requirements. We then follow a defined process which guides the part throughout its life cycle from concept to manufacture.

Quotation – Engineers are engaged early in the sales process and are utilized to develop quotations or proposals. By including an engineering perspective at the time of quotation, our process allows us to quickly collaborate with a customer’s designers, engineers, and buyers to design a part that can be produced in a cost and quality optimized way.

Design & Development – Once contracted, our team of engineers, designers, toolmakers, and machinists, get involved to produce the part and any required tooling. At the end of this step, parts are ready for metallurgic evaluation and/or first article inspection.

Production – During production, engineers work side by side with our shop floor team to oversee the manufacturing process to make sure we are meeting your requirements. Additionally each job has specific engineering quality sign off points. Parts do not leave our facility without an engineering signing that they are built to print and specification.

Continuous Improvement –  Our engineers have a unique perspective, by being involved with a part from quotation to manufacture. We utilize this perspective in a systematic way to continuously monitor a parts progress and refine the manufacturing process throughout its lifecycle.

Areas of Engineering Expertise

Our engineering team is composed of individuals who have unmatched expertise in the areas of weld design, metallurgy, and tooling fabrication. Additionally, the group has a wide and diverse range of experience and expertise in other related areas.

Part Design – We have 50 years of experience working with customers to design parts and welded assemblies.  We have a wide range of experience with different types of parts as well as from a wide array of different industries.

Material Selection-Joint Design – We have extensive experience with material selection and weld joint design. These are critical factors in designing a weld joint. A poor design can result in cracks, leaks, and, ultimately, part failure.

Process Selection – The correct precision welding process is essential to the successful joining of your part. Unless the welding process is part of the certification, which is common, our staff recommends either electron beam or laser welding depending on the physical and business requirements of your part.

Tooling Design & Fabrication – We have over 48 years of experience designing tooling for the special requirements and nuances of precision welding. For example, thermal expansion can significantly change a parts’ dimensions causing the laser or Electron Beam to miss the joint as the part heats up.

CAD/CAM Design – Our engineers have access to the latest CAD/CAM and 3D modeling software.

Automated Quality Checking/Leak Checking – Many parts that are precision welded are expensive and have exacting requirements. We have experience designing automated testing and leak checking into our welding process line in order to keep cost down and quality up.

Material Sourcing – Welding is usually only one of many steps in a parts manufacture. We have extensive experience assisting customers with sourcing subcomponents and ancillary machining processes. EB Industries can provide fully manufactured parts made to print.
